Our project kicked off in great style on 9 January 2024 in Homa Bay. Project leaders, the University of Bremen, went to Kenya to get things moving. The German team was represented by Vivian Harberts and Peter Kaune.
They were met by the local partners, including the University of Rongo. Visits were made to the participating secondary schools. The aim of the site visits was to determine the requirements for the upcoming installation of photovoltaic and IT equipment.
Many schools in the Homa Bay region lack electrical installations and power supply. This means that IT devices can not be installed as they will not run. Moreover, this lack of instructure has led to the absence of the necessary teacher skills and training to deal with the challenges of the newly-implemented competence-based curriculum (CBC) in Kenya.
The kickoff meetings between all partners on the 9th and 10th of January were hosted by the University of Rongo. Representatives and work package leaders introduced their organisations, presented on the project milestones, and discussed timeframes and responsibilities.
All partners were very excited about the possibilities that this project will bring to the people of the Homa Bay region. A good start to the project, indeed!
