2nd Kenyan Transnational Project Meeting and Partner School Activities

On 1 October 2025, the second Transnational Project Meeting (TPM) in Kenya officially began at Rongo University. The focus was to review the progress of the DEVISE4KE project and ensure that all partners were clear on upcoming deliverables and timelines.

  • Presentations begin at the TPM at Rongo University
  • Dr Vivian Harberts outlines the outstanding tasks for partners at the TPM
  • Vivian being interviewed by the Media Department at Rongo University

During the meeting, the University of Bremen team introduced two key tools — the Digicube and the Task Manager — which will soon be used across all partner institutions.

Later that day, the team travelled to Sori, the nearest town to several partner high schools. From there, they spent the week (until 7 October) working directly in partner schools around Homa Bay, providing on-site training and support. The trainer teams were split as follows:

  • Presenting the digital devices to Kiabuya
  • Dr Daniel Irazola observes teachers at work
  • Dr Christian Staden shows how to connect a low-energy device to a projector
  • St Joseph Olando Mixed Secondary: Dr Julian Ng and Vivian Harberts
  • Kiabuya Mixed Secondary: Dr Christian Staden and Dr Daniel Irazola
  • Miramba Mixed Secondary: Iratxe Lerrajete and Dr Peter Kaune

As part of the outreach, teachers from five additional schools on Mfangano Island — Kakrigu, Ramba, Kakimba, Kagungu, and Wamai Comprehensive — also joined in for training sessions.

  • Presenting the digital devices to St Joseph Olando
  • Dr Vivian Harberts demonstrates how to use a tablet
  • Dr Julian Ng leads a session at St Joseph Olando

The week was busy and hands-on, but the results were impressive. On the final day, everyone gathered at the Orore Youth Community and Sports Centre to wrap up discussions from the TPM. Dr Julian Ng led the closing Digital Teaching Workshop, followed by an engaging evaluation and future planning session led by Dr Vivian Harberts.

  • Iratxe Lerrajete with her teachers at Miramba
  • Dr Peter Kaune connects devices to the projector
  • The final celebratory dinner with teachers and heads

The team extends heartfelt thanks to all Kenyan partners for their warm hospitality, wonderful food, and outstanding cooperation — all of which made the training a great success.
