Kiabuya Runs its First LWT

Kiabuya Mixed Secondary School in Homa Bay ran its first in-house developed Learning and Work Task (LWT) on 23 April 2026.

The Erasmus+ DEVISE4Kenya project began by providing the school with solar panels and the requisite training and installation so that it could have electricity throughout the campus.

After that, teachers were trained in digital skills using the DigComp framework as a guide. Their mission was to use their newly learned skills to create their own Learning and Work Tasks (LWTs) that operate within a local context for their students.

Students were treated to this on 23 April, 2026. It was the first time that all students got to use the provided computers to undertake lessons created for them by their teachers. Following this, they had to do an evaluation of their experience.

The event was a big success because it was the first time a digital lesson was enacted formally within the school. More importantly, the lesson was devised and designed by the school’s teachers. This is a game-changing moment for a school that traditionally did not even have electricity, let alone electronic devices.
